Fed: Welfare reforms leave children withour care: Allison

Democrats leader LYN ALLISON says welfare reforms that force single parents into the
workforce will harm children.

The government is considering a back-to-work test for single parents and disability
pensioners, but Senator ALLISON says this sends a mixed message to parents and risks leaving
children unsupervised.

She says the government's encouraging married couples to have one parent stay at home
and look after the Children to the age of 17.

Meanwhile, its message to single parents is to go back to work.

Senator ALLISON says it's harder to raise children for single parents than for couples.
