FED:Oppn considers fully funding hospitals=3

Mr Abbott promised $150 million over four years to establish a professional development
fund for nurses, and $200 million over the same period for health and medical research.

In an attempt to take the pressure off public hospital emergency departments, $165
million will be invested in boosting after-hours GP services.

And Mr Abbott said there was also $200 million for GP infrastructure grants, and $350
million to increase rebates for longer doctor consultations.

"It's a smarter spend than Labor's, not a greater spend," he said of the coalition's package.
