Police prepare to prosecute the summer's illegal ravers

Rave organisers face having their sound equipment, generators andvehicles seized, police have warned.

Officers are expecting illegal all-night parties to happenthroughout the summer - but they warn that the Kent force is gearedup to clamp down on raves, which are usually hastily organisedthrough the internet.

The first of the season happened at Challock, near Ashford, lastmonth. It was closed down after police were called to complaints ofnoise.

The police also found four young men unconscious in the middle ofa lane, and two others nearby. All were thought to have overdosedon ketamine. They have all made full recoveries.

Police say they usually deal with about three raves a monthbetween May and September. Up to 400 visitors attend the unlicensedevents, which are normally held on Friday and Saturday nights inrural locations.

Tactical operations group Assistant Chief Constable Andy Adamssaid: "We won't tolerate illegal raves, which are a common problemacross the south-east.

"While we will work with the organisers of licensed musicalevents, we will commit extra resources to prevent, disrupt and closedown those who continue to flout the law and start unlicensed andillegal events in Kent.

"We will continue to take a hard line against the people whoorganise raves and will prosecute and seize the equipment of anyonefound to be involved.

"Significantly, raves are a serious health and safety risk torevellers because they are associated with illegal drugs andexcessive alcohol.

"We have also found that party-goers place themselves in dangerof being struck by vehicles as they walk home along dimly litroads."

Anyone who has reason to suspect that an illegal rave is beingorganised or is in progress is asked to call Kent Police on 01622690690.
